We’ve driven past this empty, 1950’s chrome diner in Long Island City for a number of years. Recently, a husband and wife team, renovated the space and opened M. Wells Diner. Sunny booth or counter seating, cooking in full view, and leaving smelling like the greasy spoon, M. Wells delivers a true, yet Canadian, diner experience.
Now being from Jersey, our family knows a thing or two about diners. M. Wells is traditional in looks only, it certainly doesn’t serve typical diner fare, not a pork roll in sight!
What we ordered: Fish & Chips – amazing batter on the fish, fried perfectly, and served in a newspaper cone. Delectable. We went too close to closing time and were told they ran out of chips… We were however, served a fry (very skinny), unlike the usual fish accompaniment, but still good. Ceasar Salad – ok and really good if you like heavy on the anchovy and big, homemade croutons. Parsnip puree – so good! A creamy bowl of parsnip topped with chunks of bacon (remind me to ask next time…) and a drizzle of olive oil. A little on the salty side, but a good bowl none the less. Luca had formula!

On to dessert. Small pieces of pie are the new black! We paid $6 for a teensy piece of cheesecake. Seriously, it was four or five bites – good, but small. Goodthing we gave the homemade donuts a try. We got an extra one for free 🙂 These donuts do not compare to Peter Pan – they are very dense, must be the Canadian way.
All in all a good experience at M. Wells. Definitely going back and ordering this baked tomato egg dish, that looked delicious. Luca gives it 4 out of 5 rattles!
Ah the 70’s, they were a special time. Sesame Street had some classic guests!
Hi Grammie and Poppy! I sure do miss your weekly visits. I’m ok with the rice cereal, still getting the hang of eating it. I am eager to move on to other foods though. I stare at my Daddy and Mommy while they are eating and just wait for the moment when they reach over and give me a taste. I see and smell that there is a lot out there to enjoy!

Here’s an early morning photo of me on my playroom floor. Mommy is sleeping on the floor next
Aunt Dawn compliments will get you everywhere! I have been sleeping well overall, I hear my Mom and Dad talk about how good I am doing. I’m usually in bed by 7pm and sleep until 12 or 1am. I have a quick feeding and am right back asleep. Then the fun starts… I get up a few times around 3am, but Mommy doesn’t feed me anymore, just puts a paci in my mouth. This actually works most of the time. Other times I am up with my Mommy and hanging out. And then by 5am I am up for the day.

We ventured into a new realm this weekend, feeding with a spoon. As an ode to Chris’s childhood, we used his Mickey Mouse spoon for Luca’s first feeding. Luca worked to get the hang of eating, lots of slurping off of the spoon. He’s got to work on realizing that the spoon is coming back with more, each time I went to refill, he would scream. It’s a big change from the continuous flow of the bottle I guess.

First I need to ask if you are going up against my Dad this week??? If not, then you should start t.o.
I guess it depends on who you ask… My Daddy is the best to me!
