Luca has discovered the sprinklers at the playground. Oh what fun he has. Most days thus far, limited sprinklers are turned on. But a few of the already 90 degree days, all of the sprinklers were on. Luca had a religious experience of sorts!
Going to the playground has become part of our daily routine. Now that Luca can walk, he is all over exploring, climbing, and sliding. The swings are still fun too, but for much less a time. He wants to get on the ground and walk! There are lots of kids at the playground in the afternoon and Luca loves to watch the older kids very intently.
1 year check up:
Luca weighs 21lbs 11oz and is 29.5 inches tall.
A few more immunizations and an organic lollipop as the spoonful of sugar.
Grandmom M hosted Luca’s party in the sunroom. After many weeks of rain, we were delighted that sun was out for the day of the party. Luca spent the day zooming back and forth with his new “Chomping Cart”. So much so that he tired himself out and needed a nap just after we cut the cake. No eating cake for him, he was too pooped.
Luca celebrated his first birthday with an introduction to balloons and cookies. He enjoyed both. We took it easy and went to the park, had a birthday cookie (his first introduction to sugary treats), and tried a new restaurant – Arancini Brothers – for dinner.
The birthday balloons are still floating around the apartment and become punching bags from time to time. Watching Luca experience his cookie was a hoot even though he actually only ate a few bites before tossing it aside to the ground. Our dinner of savory rice balls were amazing. They offered two veggie options (so good) and dessert arancini too and although a nutella ball sounds delicious, it kind of fell short.

For Daddy’s birthday, I made his childhood favorite, goulash and galuska. Grammy’s recipe did not disappoint. We decided to let it be Luca’s first taste of meat. I pureed the meat and sauce with rice and served it up. He ate it all without hesitation!

When Luca is upset, we bring him over to the window to look outside and take it down a notch. Seeing outside has such a calming effect. I took these photos one of those days.

Aunt Laura painted these animal pictures and we have hung them up in the playroom. Luca loves to bang on them, especially the elephant. These are also a very good example of how the boy is just climbing the walls!
